NTPC invites bids for coal imports Source: Business Line, PTI / New Delhi, 05 April 2012

NTPC on Wednesday invited bids for supply of five million tonnes (MT) of imported coal for its power plants.

The fuel will be procured through international competitive bidding. The bidding documents for all the packages will be on sale from April 4 till April 25.

NTPC imported about 16 MT of coal in the financial year ended March, 2012.

NTPC has sought 2.50—MT overseas coal for two projects in Orissa, one each in West Bengal and Bihar. They are 460—MW Talchar thermal and 3,000—MW Talcher Kaniha (both in Orissa), 2,100—MW Farakka (West Bengal) and 2,340—MW Kahalgaon (Bihar) plants.

The company will import 0.9 MT coal for 1,500—MW Simhadri and 2,600—MW Ramagundam projects in Andhra Pradesh.

Further, it has invited bids for 0.9—MT imported coal for 1,820—MW Dadri, 2,000—MW Rihand, 2,000—MW Singrauli, 460— MW Tanda, 1,050—MW Unchahar (all in Uttar Pradesh) and 3,260— MW Vindhyachal (Madhya Pradesh) plants.

NTPC would also require 0.7 MT imported coal for 2,600—MW Korba and 2,160—MW Sipat projects (both in Chattisgarh).
